Two of the NFL’s best tight ends will face battle in Super Bowl LVIII in two weeks. While Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce may be out to defeat the San Francisco 49ers as a whole, he has nothing but admiration for his adversary George Kittle. Kelce was asked about Kittle when he spoke to reporters on Friday. The Chiefs icon went viral for his gracious response when asked about the Niners tight end.
Kelce and Kittle have dominated the tight end position for nearly a decade. In six of the previous eight seasons, either one has earned first-team All-Pro accolades. They have also been nominated for 14 Pro Bowls together.
Kelce does have one advantage over Kittle: he has two Super Bowl rings. Fittingly, Kelce won his first Super Bowl against his 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, which the Chiefs won 31-20. Kelce had 43 receiving yards and a touchdown, slightly beating Kittle’s 36 receiving yards.
Kelce was 30 years old when his Chiefs defeated the 49ers four years ago, which is the same age Kittle is currently. Their 2024 rematch will most likely contribute significantly to either tight end’s legacy.
Kelce, who some already consider probably the best tight end of all time, would reach a new stratosphere with a third Super Bowl under his belt. lt. But if the 49ers TE were to win his first instead, he’d be on a pretty similar trajectory with Kelce, who is four years Kittle’s senior.
The Associated Press picked Kittle this season’s first-team All-Pro tight end after he had 65 receptions for 1,020 yards and six touchdowns. Kelce was not far behind, with 984 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
