On Sunday, July 28, supporters of the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp hailed the 34-year-old tight end, who also happened to be the girlfriend of pop sensation Taylor Swift. Fans of the athlete, known as Swifties, flocked to the St. Joseph, Missouri, camp site to support Kelce and his teammates during an autograph day. support network has already been put in place for Travis Kelce before the 2024–2025 NFL season begins!
One group of Swift supporters even traveled from Dallas to cheer on Kelce and the defending Super Bowl champions.
Terah Lee, a fan who earns a living by creating Taylor Swift T-shirts, arrived prepared with a “Go Taylor’s boyfriend!” shirt and sunglasses that a friend had made with charms from “So High School” friendship bracelets, which spell out the title of the Tortured Poets Department song that fans have speculated is about the NFL player.
“I’m obsessed with football obviously, and I’m obsessed with Taylor Swift,” Lee told PEOPLE. “I think it’s really cool [that fans are showing up]. It’s two fandoms that I don’t think anyone would’ve ever expected to converge together.”
Rebecca Jones, another Swiftie, arrived at camp wearing a Chiefs jersey with the word “Traylor”—a play on the names Travis and Taylor, naturally—on the back. Jones stated of the couple’s relationship to PEOPLE that it has been a “positive thing for everyone to look at” and expressed her hope that “their love continues to blossom.”
“I think it shows how dedicated Swiftie fans are,” added fan Giovanna, who created her pal’s custom sunglasses. “I feel like the Swifties are going to do anything to show their support, even if it’s on the hot side out here.”
The 16-year-old Hannah Calhoun told PEOPLE that she and her parents traveled from Lexington, Kentucky, to the training camp in order to see Kelce. She even arrived prepared, holding a sign that said, “Travis, come write your name on this blank space I have.” and an armful of friendship bracelets.
“I love Taylor and I think she’s a great role model and so I love that my daughter has her to look up to and so we thought, ‘Let’s do this, Let’s go out and see Travis Kelce,’ ” Hannah’s mom Alison said.
Other seasoned Chiefs supporters acknowledged the excitement that Swift has contributed to the league and the team itself, even if they weren’t among the many Swifties present. Supporter of the Chiefs Kelli Anderson, who told PEOPLE that she has “lived here my whole life,” claimed to have been a fan of Kelce’s since before the 34-year-old began dating Swift.
“I just think it’s really cool that he’s bringing so much attention to Kansas City and I just love the two of them together and enjoy watching their love story unfold,” Anderson said. “It’s cool that the rest of the world is starting to appreciate the Chiefs.”
Following their victory in Super Bowl LVIII in February, Kelce and the Chiefs are rehearsing at Missouri Western State University from July 21 to August 15.
Before the regular season officially starts on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs will play a preseason kickoff game on August 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Kelce relished his off-season time with Swift before training camp. Notably, he has witnessed the singer’s global Eras Tour performances in a number of European cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, and London, where he joined her on stage for one of her costume changes.
Wearing a tux and a top hat, he filled in for a backup dancer during her Tortured Poets Department act in London, doing his duty as a boyfriend and transporting her to a red couch that was center stage.
In addition to helping each other with their businesses, the two have taken romantic trips to Italy in May and the Bahamas in March when they have free time.
