Shaquille O’Neal’s Retirement Advice to Jason Kelce: ‘Don’t be an Idiot Like me’

Jason Kelce is pondering retiring again. This time around, the Philadelphia Eagles center appears to be nearing the end of his playing days. According to sources, he informed his teammates that his career was over after the club fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC wild-card playoffs.

An emotional Kelce reacted to the claims on his podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis, but it’s clear that the end of his career is on his mind. Kelce sought retirement advice from former colleagues and Eagles legends in a documentary about his life that aired on Amazon Prime Video last year. He recently interviewed Shaquille O’Neal on his podcast.

Shaq retired in 2011 and damaged his home life, admitting to being a “serial cheater.” He divorced his wife, with whom he has five children, the same year he retired. He advised Kelce not to follow his lead. “If you’re going to retire, accept it and enjoy your family, brother,” O’Neal advised an attentive Kelce. “I made a bunch of idiotic decisions that cost me my family and left me without anyone.

“That is not the situation with you. So, enjoy your beautiful wife and children, and never dwell on what we had. What we had is what we got – you have the ring, people know who you are, so enjoy. Because, again, I was an idiot, and I’ve talked about it a long time. I love my whole family. I’m in a 100,000-square-foot house by myself.”
