Green Bay Packers Face Uncertainty Ahead of the Tampa Bay Bucs Game

The Green Bay Packers running back situation is completely unclear for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lambeau Field. Both Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon practiced on Friday, but are listed as questionable to play.

Jones is handling a knee injury for quite some time. The starter sprained his MCL in the Los Angeles Chargers game. He’s missed three weeks in a row, but has practiced since last week and said he’s confident about his status for Sunday.

“He did what he needed to do today”, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said after the activity.

The AJ Dillon situation is dicier at this point. The 2020 second-round pick broke his thumb in the final drive of the game against the New York Giants on Monday. He participated in practice with his finger wrapped up to test ball security.

“We’re kinda working through it right now”, LaFleur mentioned. “We’ll see where we’re at, had it padded pretty good.”

Patrick Taylor is the only other running back on the active 53-man roster and fully healthy. Veteran Kenyan Drake and rookie Ellis Merriweather are on the practice squad and can be elevated for gameday.

Injury report
Wide receiver Christian Watson didn’t practice the entire week because of a hamstring injury. He’s listed as doubtful to play, which for the Packers practically means he won’t be available. However, it’s a progress compared to last week, when Watson was declared out two days ahead of the Giants game.

Jayden Reed (ankle) is off the injury report, and therefore good to go. Meanwhile, Dontayvion Wicks, also with an ankle injury, is questionable to play.

On defense, there are several question marks. Safety Darnell Savage, linebacker Quay Walker, and cornerback Jaire Alexander, all handling shoulder injuries, are listed as questionable. Cornerback Eric Stokes (hamstring) is still on injured reserve, but also listed as questionable. If the Packers want him to play on Sunday, Stokes has to be activated by Saturday.

Besides Jayden Reed, these are the players who are off the injury report and will play against the Buccaneers: edge Kingsley Enagbare (toe), guard Elgton Jenkins (shoulder), cornerback Keisean Nixon (quadriceps), safety Jonathan Owens (knee), and defensive tackle TJ Slaton (quadriceps).
